The first title fight of the night sees the vacant UFC women’s featherweight championship up for grabs as a pair of Invicta FC world champions step into the octagon to fight for UFC gold for the first time.
Both Cris "Cyborg" Justino and Tonya Evinger are seasoned, hugely respected veterans of the sport, and both held world titles in the female-only MMA promotion Invicta Fighting Championships, Justino at featherweight and Evinger at bantamweight. But when you look at the two fighters, there is a clear difference between the pair.
Evinger is as tough and gritty as they come at 135 lbs, and she’s in form, too – 10 wins and one no-contest in her last 11 bouts. But she’s stepping into a whole new world when she faces Justino tonight.
"Cyborg" has lost just once in her entire 19-fight career – in her debut – and has claimed each of her last 11 wins by KO or TKO. Put simply, she’s the most devastating force in women’s MMA today.
Evinger will provide game opposition, no doubt, but it’s almost impossible to see how she gets her hand raised against Justino, who looks fit and healthy at 145 lbs after a year spent depleting her body trying to make catchweight bouts at 140 lbs.
This one may not last long, and it’s likely to be pretty devastating. You’ll struggle to find much value, but Justino by KO/TKO is the most nailed-on pick of the entire fight card.
