You couldn’t wish for a better game to kick off the 2017/18 English Premier League season, could you?
Arsenal and Leicester slugged it out like punch-drunk heavyweights for 90 pulsating minutes (plus five minutes of stoppage time), with the Gunners walking away with all three points after a seven-goal thriller at the Emirates.
But more importantly than that, we picked up the W we wanted, too.
We pointed out Arsenal’s decidedly dodgy opening-day form and opted instead to go down the Over/Under route, backing Over 2.5 Goals and Over 3.5 Goals at 5/8 and 8/5 respectively.
By half-time, we’d cashed in on both.
We also highlighted the value of 6/1 on a Leicester win, and a cheeky side bet on the Foxes would have had punters rubbing their hands together as goals from Jamie Vardy (twice) and Shinji Okazaki put Leicester 3-2 up deep into the second half.
But a great finish from Aaron Ramsey and a towering stoppage-time header from Olivier Giroud gave Arsene Wenger’s men the points.
Not that it mattered to us, mind you. We’d picked up the win long before that stoppage-time drama ever happened.
I hastily built my official Premier League fantasy team earlier this afternoon and finished up happy with my squad.
However my stellar unit of footballing excellence, PSV Hangover, sadly didn’t get off to the flying start I’d hoped for, despite picking both Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey in my squad.
That’s because the bone-headed manager (that’s me) failed to actually pick my best XI ahead of tonight’s game.
So while the Gunners ran out late winners, two of their goalscoring heroes of the day spent the evening picking splinters on my subs bench.
Nice work, Head. Nice work.
